Desktop Computer Animal-rights activists however believe the increase in roundups is a result of poor oversight by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which issues roundup permits.
Notebooks Roundup permits are issued to farmers whose crops are being destroyed by the waterfowl, or to businesses and public or private entities affected by geese and their droppings.
Lenovo Health officials say in addition to offending the senses of sight and smell, droppings can carry E.coli and salmonella bacteria that contaminate drinking-water supplies.
Hard Drive The permits authorize trapping a specific number of Canada geese during the molting season -usually mid-June through early July - when they are unable to fly well. The geese typically are taken to a food-processing center to be killed.
Travelstar "When people are having problems, they need to have a way a way to solve them," said David Dobias, a permit examiner in the service's Northeast office. "(A roundup) is one of them."
Gateway Already this year, his office has issued 48 roundup permits to kill 10,670 birds. In 2000, officials issued 10 roundup permits for 1,169 Canada geese. Last year, 30 permits were issued for 4,508 birds.
Laptop Parts Dobias said roundup permits are given on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must document a significant "geese problem" and provide details of all nonlethal attempts to drive off the birds.
Software "We only issue a permit for killing when all else fails," said Diana Weaver, spokeswoman for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Hard Drives Geese advocates dispute that point and charge the federal government with merely rubber stamping all applications to kill geese.
Electronics "Corruption has turned (Fish and Wildlife) into a wildlife killing machine," said Greg Feigelson, director of the New York-based Coalition to Prevent the Destruction of Canada Geese. "There's no excuse for this type of slaughter."
Canon The federal government also authorizes sport hunting of geese from September to February and egg addling, the practice of shaking or disturbing the contents of eggs to prevent them from hatching.
Desktop Pc Feigelson said the coalition supports egg addling and the use of border collies and other dogs to chase geese to other locations.
Desktop Computers U.S. Rep. Jim Saxton, R-3rd of Mount Holly, said he supports issuing additional permits to kill geese. "This is not the end of the goose problem. This is the beginning of the solution," he said. "Inaction will lead to irreparable damage."
