Clear your browser cache

When you use a web browser (Internet Explorer, Opera etc) and view web pages these files are automatically saved on your computer. These are known as browser cache or temporary internet files.

Laptop Battery Each browser users a different location on your computer to save its 'cache', and each browser has its own way of clearing this cache. If these aren't cleaned out regularly they can consume a large amount of space on your computer!

? Name server problem (c_mooloolaba_au) Apr 12, 01pm There's probably still some kind of caching issue going on. Your web browser, computer, or ISP may have the previous domain setting cached. In a couple days, the cache will expire and you will view the correct site all the time. You could try restarting your computer to clear the cache now.

Thinkpad Below we show you a step by step method for cleaning browsers, Internet Explorer, Opera and Firefox.

For optimum efficiency, we recommend that you clear your browser cache from time to time. The cache stores images from pages you've visited so that when you return to those pages, you don't have to wait for the images to reload. Please note that while clearing these files will help your browser to run more efficiently, it will not effect any of your browser's settings. To clear the cache, just follow the instructions for your browser.

Microsoft Internet Explorer
The first step in clearing the cache/temporary internet files for Internet Explorer is to open a browser window, and select 'Tools' from the top menu and then select 'Internet Options' (last item).

    1. Clear the browsers cache. Steps for clearing cache vary by browser. Instructions follow for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari. If your browser is not listed, check the online help in your browser for instructions on how to clear or empty the cache.

Whata s happening When a website is requested through a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc), the request is first sent to the computer's Internet Service Provider (ISP) which contacts the domaina s name servers to look up the location (IP address) of the web hosting server. Caching occurs when the web hosting server at the IP address location no longer hosts the website, but a visitor's web browser still attempts to connect to that server to retrieve the web page. This happens because the web browser and the computer's operating system keeps a list of already looked up IP addresses, and it refers to that list for future IP address look ups. ISPs also keep their own IP address list as well. The purpose of this is to speed up web page loading times, and to reduce the traffic on the Internet. Unfortunately, this can lead to delays during name server changes. The images below shows what happens when there is no caching and what happens when there is caching.

Desktop Computer Firefox
Cleaning Firefox's cache is similar to the other browsers. First, open a Firefox browser window, and click 'Tools' from the top menu. Then go down to Options'. When the window has opened click on the Privacy icon (on the left). On the right hand screen, you will have a button down the bottom that says 'Clear', which is to the right of the word 'Cache'. Click this button to clear the Firefox cache. Once done, click Ok and close the browser window.
