For the fifth season in a row, the men's and women's teams were crowned champions of Luther's invitational. The women won with 454 points, over 90 points more than the runner-up. Erin Peterson '97, was named Most Valuable Performer after winning golds in 50, 100, and 200 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. She also set a school record of 2:02.80 in the 200 freestyle. The men also seized victory, winning with 401 points.

On January 24-25, the Norse traveled to the Grinnell Invitational where both teams placed second. The women had four first place finishes in relays (200 and 400 freestyle relays and 200 and 400 medley relays). Stacey Braschler '99, set a school record of 2:19.64 in the 200 backstroke, taking almost two seconds off the record she set February 24, 1996.

Both the Norse men's and women's teams were crowned champions at the Iowa Small College Invitational held in Cedar Rapids on February 1. David Jensen '00, set a school record of 143.20 in 1-meter diving. Braschler broke her recently-set record in the 200 backstroke with a new time of 2:19.57. Several gold medal individuals were Peterson (50,100, and 200 freestyle); Braschler (100, and 200 backstroke); Laura McGrew '97, (100, and 200 butterfly); Jami Severson '99, (200 IM); and Abi Fruhling '99, (100 breast stroke).

At the most recent swimming event, a double-dual with Loras and Grinnell on February 8, both Luther teams captured two more wins. The Norse men defeated Loras 72-37 and Grinnell 76-34, raising their dual meet record to 5-3. Multiple winners were Matt Miller '97 (50, and 100 freestyle), Phil Bubb '00 (500, and 1000 freesstyle), and Jason Steward '00 (400 IM, and 100 backstroke). The women brought their dual meet record to 4-3 by defeating the Loras Duhawks (91-22) and the Grinnell Pioneers (60-53). Double winners were Marin Stark '98 (optional and required diving), McGrew (100 butterfly, and 50 freestyle), and Peterson (100 and 200 freestyle).
