Square Enix Announces First Collaboration With Microsoft
LOS ANGELES, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Square Enix Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan, "Square Enix") a leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software including two of the world's most popular franchises FINAL FANTASY(R) and DRAGON QUEST(TM), today announced that FINAL FANTASY(R) XI will be released on Xbox 360(TM), Microsoft's next-generation gaming console, and Xbox Live, the company's premier online gaming service. The partnership was announced at Microsoft's Media Briefing held in Los Angeles on May 16th. Xbox 360 will be available this holiday season.

Although some MMGs now are playable via consoles (most notably Final Fantasy XI from Square Enix, which is playable on the PlayStation 2 and soon on the Xbox 360), generally playing an MMG on a console is more expensive due to the console's unique requirements ( on hard drives or keyboards). The great majority of MMGs are played using Windows PCs. Two popular MMGs, World of Warcraft and Shadowbane, are also available for both Windows PCs and Macintosh computers.
