CSI Intensifies SPAM Blocking Efforts
PADUCAH, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2004--Computer Services, Inc. (CSI) (Pink Sheets:CSVI) which provides secure, high-speed Internet access and email to customers through CSINET has intensified efforts to reduce SPAM - unsolicited email - by blocking email from countries that contribute significantly to the amount of SPAM sent worldwide. This latest addition to CSI's SPAM-fighting arsenal is expected to dramatically reduce the huge numbers of unsolicited emails that target the CSINET customer base each day.
CSINET email users can view the list of blacklisted countries on CSI's secure website and have the ability to free up legitimate emails by adding specific email addresses or domains to a white list that enables messages to bypass this new filter. To make this process even more efficient, by mid-Summer CSI will provide daily reports to each email user that will show blocked messages and provide users with the option to release messages for delivery. Before instituting this latest SPAM-fighting measure, CSI was already blocking 73% of inbound email as SPAM by using one of the industry's most respected SPAM-fighting applications, CipherTrust Ironmail to turn back the daily avalanche of unsolicited emails.
In addition to SPAM blocking, the CSINET email environment includes redundant email-specific firewalls and virus scanning (updated hourly to insure the latest virus protection is in place). The importance of these virus fighting capabilities was demonstrated most effectively in January when the "MyDoom" virus hit with such force. As the virus was infecting nearly one in 12 email messages, CSINET was blocking 16,000 infected messages per day.
