Laptop Computers The Mars rover, Spirit, is trying to get to an area on Mars where it can draw enough sunlight before Winter's most diminishing period, which is about 100 days from now, NASA said. Currently, the Mars rover can only move about one hour per day on a flat area.

Desktop Computer NASA said that the Mars rover would have traveled further if it weren't frequent stops to see if there was something catching or dragging on the right-front wheel of Spirit.
Notebooks Since February, the Mars rover's solar panels have been producing about 15 less electricity, which is limiting Spirit's progress to only 40 feet per day, NASA said. In the summer, the solar panels were producing about 50 percent more electricity than they are now.

Hard Drive NASA's other Mars rover, Opportunity, which landed on the opposite side of Mars is also still operating. Both Spirt and Opportunitylanded on Mars in January 2004. Their original missions were estimated to take 90-days, so both Mars rovers have by far outlasted their expected lifetimes.
Travelstar Opportunity just finished exploring the crater Erebus over the last four months and is now making a 1.2-mile drive to the giant Victoria crater where it will continue its exploration of the Red Planet.
