Thinkpad (AXcess News) Houston, TX - Internet financial guru, Safa
Rashtchy, senior analyst, Piper Jaffray & Co. says the China
Internet and technology market is facing a year of solid growth but
competition will play into the scenerio as well while costs
increase and margins narrow.

Laptop Computers Internet companies in particular are seeing the increasing cost
of success: margins are declining as expenses increase due to
competition. At the same time, core market demands remain
healthy.
If you are in need of laptop batteries or laptop computer battery chargers for your Dell, IBM, Apple or Toshiba laptop, Batteries Plus is the store you need. We offer a wide variety of laptop batteries that are specific to your individual laptop.
Laptop Computer Risks include the volatility of wireless revenues, investor
sentiment toward a young and new sector, the potential of
government intervention, and the potential of decline or volatility
economic growth. The unique corporate structure of the Chinese
Internet companies also poses additional risk factors for
investors.

Desktop Computer The good news is that, unlike what the U.S. Internet market went
through in 1998-2000, Piper Jaffray believes this trend is gradual
and will not result in increasing losses; rather, it will simply
cut back some of the profit margins. The Chinese companies, unlike
the Web 1.0 companies in U.S., are generating significant profit
from each customer they acquire. In fact, they have been generating
too much profit and may have not focused enough on expanding their
share at the cost of lowering some of these profits. Now the
competition will force most of them to be more concerned about
market share gains.
Notebooks "The dual increase in cost of labor and marketing will make the
operating margins much more realistic and sustainable, in the
15%-40% range rather than over 50% that was common in China early
on," Rashtchy said. "A key beneficiary of this trend will be
ad-based companies. Both offline players like Focus Media, as well
as online portals like Sina, Sohu, and Netease will stand to
benefit from their key assets: inventories of ads."
Lenovo Rashtchy went on to say that, "Similarly, we expect search
destinations to become more valuable to an increasing number of
Internet companies. Unlike in the U.S., companies like Ctrip or the
wireless service providers have been using very little sponsored
search for customer acquisition. We believe this trend will begin
to change in 2006, as competition in search and Google's push for a
better search engine will create more useful search experience for
users, creating a virtuous cycle that should lead to more
advertisers coming to search as well."
Hard Drive "We expect that the online game industry will regain its lost
respect and attention by the second half of the year. This will
happen as new popular titles hit the market and the effect of
potentially negative trends such as government's fatigue control or
the new free-to-play models prove to be minimal," said
Rashtchy.
Travelstar Rashtchy also expects wireless services to have a solid but
moderate growth that is much less likely to be marked by major
disruptions in the form of new regulations.
Gateway In his "china Update 2006", Piper Jaffray's Rashtchy outlined
their "top picks" in China.
Laptop Parts "We continue to rate the wireless services sector a top category
base on low valuations (lowest of the China group) and improving
fundamentals, with relatively easy comps on 2005. Tom Online, as
the leader of this group, is the best wireless play in our opinion,
as its diverse product offering will prove to be valuable to the
carrier. Similarly KongZhong has a diverse set of products and is
expanding its carrier relationships beyond China Mobile.
Software "Portals will benefit from increasing ad revenues. Note our
recent upgrade of Sohu based on improving fundamentals and a
relatively stable model. Sina is still likely to be held back by
its weaker wireless segment.
Hard Drives "The "Other" Group. The three companies, Focus Media, Ctrip, and
51Job, operate
outside the ordinary Internet
and wireless segments and are thus more insulated from the
volatilities of those segments. We expect all three to continue
to do well, remaining their respective market leader, and with
their markets growing in a healthy and sustainable rate.
Valuation has forced us to maintain our Market Perform on 51 Job
and may limit that stock's upside from current levels. We
continue to believe both Ctrip and Focus Media have strong
upside potential in 2006," said Rashtchy.
Electronics Chinese Internet Users Topped 111 Million
Canon The Chinese Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) reported
that at the end of year 2005, the number of Chinese Internet users
has reached 111 million. Even with the 18% y/y growth in the number
of Internet users, the percentage accounted for merely 8.5% of the
total population, less than a third of online
advertising, and about 1% of total
ad spending. This growth is skewed toward more urban cities.
Desktop Pc The Chinese Wireless Market
Desktop Computers The Chinese wireless market reached over $71 billion in 2005.
There are nearly 380 million mobile subscribers, or 29% of the
population, in China today. The number of fixed-line subscribers in
China still outnumbers the mobile subscribers, but this will be
more likely to change. According to an expert with Ministry of
Information Industry (MII), by the end of 2006, China will have
over 440m mobile users.

Telecompaper.
Data Recovery Taobao May Challenge eBay U.S. In 2008. Alibaba CEO Jack Ma
recently announced that Alibaba's online auction site Taobao.com
commands about 70% of China's online auction market. Taobao will
continue supporting and promoting China's online auction market, as
the current market size will pale in comparison with the market
three years from now. The CEO also believes that by year 12B SMS

received 12 billion short messages during the Chinese New Year
holiday. China Unicom accounted for 3.1 billion SMS during the
holiday, up 20 percent from 2005. Shanghai handset users sent and
received over 400 million SMS on New Year's Eve, with China Mobile
subsidiary Shanghai Mobile accounting for 290 million SMS.
Cisco The Growth of China
Keyboard The Chinese economy grew 9.9% in 2005. Preliminary estimates
show that GDP for the year was $18.23 trillion yuan ($2.26 trillion
USD). More than 520,000 foreign-invested companies are now
registered in China. The government is now promoting the
development of both SMBs and the private sector as these are
playing and are expected to play an increasingly important role in
driving further development of China's economy.
Monitor China Starts Adjusting Resource Prices
Desktop The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced
on Monday that it will appropriately raise the producer price of
natural gas all around China
starting December 26, 2006.
Infosys 3G Investments
Refurbished Laptops 3G investments will bring another new era for the wireless and
mobile industry. However, China Mobile may turn away from China's
TD-SCDMA standard. Market watchers expect China Mobile, which runs
services on the GSM network, may obtain a WCDMA license for its 3G
service. Other telecom companies such as China Telecom Corp or
China Netcom Group will get TD-SCDMA licenses.
