A capella group 'Blind Man's Bluff' to return to Luther stage
Date 11/16/2000 12:00 AM | Topic: Arts & CultureOn Nov. 17 at 8 p.m., 'Blind Man's Bluff' will take the stage in Marty's. The band, a five-part harmony, performs with no instruments in a fashion similar to the 'Backstreet Boys.'
Jordan Nelson, co-chair of SAC Spotlight, which is sponsoring the band, is excited to have them perform on campus. "They're really awesome," he said, describing his experience with the band at a North Carolina convention last spring. "A lot of a cappella groups just stand around and sing. These guys really get the crowd into it."
Using a lot of audience participation, expressed primarily by pulling fans on stage to sing along, the self-described "Vocal Rock Band" tries to deliver a unique show even for those who have seen a Bluff concert before.
Currently, the band is busy updating their set list by adding a few new songs they have been composing while on tour. This is representative of the general philosophy behind 'Blind Man's Bluff' as expressed by the members, who, according to their Web site, "are dedicated to continually updating the Bluff show with new music to keep things fresh for you (and for us, too!)."
At the moment, the Chicago-based quintet consists of David Wilner (tenor, artistic director, and band leader), David Anderson (tenor), Adam Sears (bass), Paul Donnelly (vocal percussionist), and Eric Skalinder ("utility").
The group's fall tour, which promotes the band's newest album, BMB2K, as well as their live limited-edition CD, The Concert That Never Happened, will take them through Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, and Virginia. BMB2K, which covers Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" and Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life," will also contain the song "Wake Up Call," as a prelude to the soon-to-be-released all-original 'Blind Man's Bluff' album.
