Working with BETA, we hope that animal welfare will have an increased priority, and that joint efforts to relocate Lola will mark a new era for animal matters in Beirut. travelstar

Lola is now settling in to her new home at the Cefn-yr-Erw Primate Sanctuary in South Wales, which is run by Graham and Jan Garen, who offered to help as soon as they heard of Lola plight. gateway

Formerly a traditional Welsh hill farm, the sanctuary now rescues and provides a home for many types of unwanted animals, although caring for primates such as chimpanzees, baboons, spider monkeys, capuchins and marmosets is their speciality. laptop parts

Whalewatch speaks out against Norwegian whaling season mainframe

Whalewatch, the international anti-whaling coalition, has spoken out against Norway plans to increase its commercial whale hunt quota this year. samsung

As the Norwegian whaling season got underway this week, Whalewatch condemned the activity as ruel and unnecessary. /P computer repair

The whaling season will be the largest hunt in decades, with the quota of Minke whales due to be slaughtered up from 796 to 1050. used computers

Jennifer Lonsdale of the Environmental Investigation Agency, a member of the coalition said: network

orway is the only country in the world that commercially hunts whales, despite the international ban on commercial whaling. They have also now removed human inspectors from whaling vessels in favour of automated data-collection devices which makes it almost impossible to record animal welfare information during whaling. digital cameras

Britain must adopt recommended standards if bird flu outbreak leads to mass cull cheap laptops

The government must adopt a humane culling policy if it is to successfully maintain animal welfare standards in the event of a mass slaughter of poultry following the first confirmed case of avian flu in Britain, according to the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). wholesale

In 2003 the WSPA presented a dossier to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) outling inhumane culling methods across Asia and, in collaboration with the University of Bristol, developed recommendations on effective and humane culling methods for governments to follow in the event of an H5N1 outbreak. brother

WSPA Chief Veterinary Adviser, David Wilkins MBE MA MRCVS, said: f a mass cull proves necessary in Britain humane slaughter and the confirmation of death before disposal will be vital if animals are to be culled as quickly and painlessly as possible and the risk of infection to people minimised. /P netvista

He added: Ongoing outbreaks of avian flu around the world have seen millions of poultry inhumanely killed. Chickens have been beaten, buried alive, poisoned, left in bins to die and even set on fire while still alive. This kind of knee-jerk reaction is completely unacceptable as effective and humane standards formulated and published by the OIE are available to all countries. camera

The WSPA own recommendations include using gas, hand held stunners, electric baths an lethal injection of anesthetic by vets all of which when properly administered could kill the animal immediately and further prohibit direct transmission to humans, averting the risk of a pandemic. networking
