CHANDLER, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 2004--Unicon Inc., the leading independent provider of enterprise portal, learning, collaborative and integration technology for higher education, today announced the availability of UNICON Academus 1.3. This latest version delivers increased performance, system-administration utilities for monitoring the system, extended browser support and upgraded compatibility to uPortal 2.1.4 framework.
The Sun applications, which include the Java System Identity Manager, Mobile to its subscribers, estimated to be up to 20 million. In addition the portal will use the Java System Directory Server Enterprise Edition to store up to 10 million customer records, and purchases in excess of 1, 000 supplier service definitions. The directory server will also be used to control the appearance of the portal to customers and process purchases of games, music and news via the portal.

For Linux and Solaris environments, 10 new utility channels allow system administrators to monitor the server's vital statistics as well as resource trends over time. This allows administrators to identify potential problems before they escalate. These channels monitor Web traffic (HTTP), Java runtime environment, CPU, swap, disk space, and network traffic, as well as provide an instantaneous view of the JVM for thread count, free memory and current users hitting the JVM. An additional channel can parse the log files for errors, as configured by the administrator. This new collection of utilities comes with a configuration script for easy installation.

Academus 1.3 also includes additional browser support and compatibility improvements. In addition to the previously supported browsers, Academus now supports the Netscape 7.0.2, Netscape 7.1 and Mozilla 1.6 browsers across all platforms. Also, all Academus 1.3 deployments are now fully compatible with the uPortal 2.1.4 framework, an upgrade from uPortal 2.1.2.
