Cons: A PCI Express x16 video card will hinder
your case sound connection a little - it connects, but it might be
tight.
Other Thoughts: Awesome board!
Newegg Delivers again
- Pros: My first gigabyte product. Wow, works
like a champ. Easy to install, posted on boot
- Cons: pci express lanes are 8x each for sli
mode. 1 IDE plug
- Other Thoughts: get it if you are on a
budget!!
Part of the next-generation of AMD's 64-bit strategy, the Opteron
280 Dual Core processor adds significant new features to give you a
whole new way of doing business. The processor is based on AMD64
technology - an innovative technology that allows IT professionals
to run 32- and 64-bit applications simultaneously. Organizations
can now grow into 64-bit computing without sacrificing their
existing IT investments.
Running at a rapid 2.4GHz, it enhances multitasking and improves
overall performance. This processor helps eliminate the real
challenges and bottlenecks of systems because everything is
directly connected to the CPU thanks to its Direct Connect
Architecture, which delivers the best system for x86 computing.
It's the ideal performance boost for the working environments of
today and tomorrow.
- Pros: As a System Engineer for my company I've
gotten great performance out of this chip. We purchased this chip
when it was around $1000.00, and it was well worth it. We're
managing several small Business's IT, and these BAD BOYS run at a
Business day average of 8% w/ 30 User CRM package, AD, Exchange,
SQL, File and Print Server. This chip is INCREDIBLE!
- Cons: Running Windows on it! Hehe.. Just
kidding!
- Other Thoughts: The memory can't feed this
chip information fast enough. Running 2 gigs my memory is the
bottleneck.
- Pros: Very fast, I have 2 of these in S2895
and nothing can stop them! :-) With Zalman 9500 they idle at
35C
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: Newegg is fantastic!
- Pros: Installed a couple of these on my dual
CPU opteron motherboard (asus 8kn-dl). It is running Gentoo Linux
SMP and the four processors scream when building packages. As
always newegg is super.
- Cons: None.
- Pros: See Other Thoughts!
- Cons: See Other Thoughts!
- Other Thoughts: Price is a bit steep for a
dual core, you can get an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 that runs at the
same frequency, only with 4 cores rather than two. The Quad Q6600
is also $1 cheaper :)
AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing
with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there
are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at
the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing
users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the
computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
Integrated DDR DRAM Memory Controller The AMD
Opteron 280 Dual-core processor is integrated with a DDR DRAM
memory controller capable of supporting registered and ECC DRAM.
The integrated memory controller changes the way the processor
accesses main memory, resulting in increased bandwidth, reduced
memory latencies, and enhanced processor performance. Usage of
DDR400/PC3200 memory will provide each processor in either a 1-way
or 2-way system with up to 6.4GB/s memory bandwidth.

- Pros: Noticably faster than the Athlon XP
1600+ system it replaced and does indeed run ""Cool'n'Quiet"" as
advertised. Seems to run much cooler than my XP 1600+ CPU.
- Cons: After the price drop, I wish I had
purchased the 4600+ for less than $20 more.
- Other Thoughts: I don't overclock and use this
processor for a small office Windows XP computer. In real world
stuff that I do, my X2 4200+ system seems to run about 2-2.5x
faster than my Althon XP 1600+ on single tasks. For example, I can
rip songs with Itunes (gotta make time during the day for music) at
about 25x speed vs 11x. The system also boots in less than half the
time. Also, when programs are multitasked on the 4200+ they run
MUCH smoother as compared to the XP 1600+.
- Pros: Dual core, multi task, the stock
heatsink has been good enough and I like to game, cod2, company of
heroes. I have not o/c it yet, it's fast enough for everything I do
right out of the box.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: Even though there is only a
small copper square, an aftermarket heatsink is not needed. I may
need one if I decide to o/c it.
- Pros: It doesn't get hot or use a lot of
power, and it is a quick little processor.
- Cons: none so far
- Other Thoughts: I've had this processor for 2
months now and it has run flawlessly. Definately a good price
too
- Pros: This was a great preformer and runs
quite cool for the 90nm process. The stock heatsink was good enough
to get to 2.4 without going over 50C.
- Cons: None
- Pros: Everything I expected and more. Runs
much cooler than any of my XP 2500+ Bartons - 28C idle, 33C loaded
pretty well. All on the stock heat sink with the thermo pad
pre-applied. Even with arctic silver 5 my Bartons would run no
cooler than 42C idle until I hung a big Thermaltake 97A heat sink
on them. Am amazed at the speed applications run. Lower power
consumption also a big plus.
- Cons: I'll probably need something faster -
like maybe at 5200+ for video editing - but for this rig, it's
great.
- Other Thoughts: Running in an EpoX EP-MF4-J3
MB. 2GIG GSkill RAM, and a moderately priced ASUS vid card. I don't
game and don't OC, so don't need anything more for this box.
- Pros: Blazing fast 2 X 2.4Ghz Awwww...Yessss.
Socket AM2 dropped right into my foxconn 590SLI board with no force
(Like it should) Plays all games with not so much as a pause.
- Cons: Cant think of any other than the 2 X
512Kb L2 Cache rather than the 2 X 1Mb Cache but like others have
said this is AMD's new standard for lower end CPUs
- Other Thoughts: Rig- Foxconn C51WEM2AA 590 SLI
board, 2 Gigs of Corssair DDR2 675 C4 Ram, This CPU, a Nspire 600
Watt PSU, and 2 X XFX 7950GTs in SLI all in a NZXT Apollo
Case.......Im in heaven
- Pros:
It works (or atleast the LED indicator tells me so) laptop battery
-
Cons:
Its rather large and bulky, takes up some valuable extra
room in my computer bag! The swivel plug is hard to move in
and out of position. thinkpad
-
Other Thoughts:
I would not buy this again. microsoft
-
Pros:
Stick it in your backpack n your ready to go. This is
perfect if you are a college student for using at the
library b/c most outlets don't have surge protection.
Your 1K+ investment can be lost in an instant but with this
on hand you'll save your investment for as long as your
a broke college student. laptop computers
-
Cons:
none laptop computer
-
Other Thoughts:
Wish computer adapters already came with surge
protection. desktop computer
-
Pros:
Not huge, although I've yet to experience a surge,
so I'm not sure if it would fail or not! notebooks
-
Cons:
Power at my university should be less reliable so I can
test this baby out. lenovo

I have a gigabyte GA P35 DS3L, E6750, GSKILL PC2 1000,
PSU Thermaltake W0116RU, Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme,
500gig Seagate, ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with
LightScribe, EVGA 512-P3-N841-A3 GeForce 8800GTS laptop parts
-
Pros:
Effective cooling provided a well-known manufacturer.
Very good quality build and good engineering. software
-
Cons:
In the last week I bought two of these. Thermalright
STILL has not fixed the quality control problem of not
ensuring a flat heatsink base. Both of my Ultra 120
Extremes required lots of sweat, wet-dry sandpaper, and
time time spent lapping to get the heatsink bases flat.
Come one Thermalright! Your good reputation won't last
forever if you keep doing this. These complaints are
nothing new. Also, Thermalright needs to work on the
screw-in retention clamp. It is just not rigid enough and
does not put enough downforce on the heatsink base-CPU. hard drives
-
Other Thoughts:
If you think this heatsink is ""huge,
"" you obviously have not used top-tier heatsinks
before that are designed for high performance CPUs. As far
as size and weight go, the U120E is nowhere near the
largest or heaviest. I'm getting about 2C cooler CPU
operation with the U120E compared to the Tuniq Tower 120;
3C better compared to Zalman 9700NT. System used for
temperature measurement/comparison: Abit IP35-E, Intel
Q6600 at 3.5GHz (1.1GHZ overclock) running at full load,
very well ventilated case. electronics
-
Pros:
Mounting is solid and secure canon
-
Cons:
Size, Weight desktop pc
-
Other Thoughts:
Just wanted to explain a little about this thing. Yes it
is huge, which can be a pro or a con, depending, but if you
buy this you should already know that. Taking this straight
from the box and attaching a 120mm Panaflo to it gave a
drop of about 8 to 10 celcius over a Zalman 9700. With the
cooler lapped, temps dropped another 8 to 10 degrees. With
the processor lapped, temps dropped another 5 or so
degrees. A 5000+ Black Edition overclocked to 3480MHz and
running below 27C idle, is quite an achievement for air
cooling, and in turn, this cooler paired with a good fan
and some time and knowledge, outperforms or matches some
water cooling setups that could be 4 times the price. For
$100 or less, this WILL surely make your temps drop
significantly keeping on par with water setups for half (or
more) the price. desktop computers
-
Pros:
for the price it just can't be beat. I use it with a
15"" MacbookPro and it fits fine. I would imagine
it would fit the 17"" models as well because it
now comes with an extra bar to widen the support
underneath. think pad
-
Cons:
none yet, but we'll see repair
-
Other Thoughts:
There is no active cooling but for my laptop I don't
need it. The usb coolers will just suck the power from the
laptop and I didn't want that. Love the fact that it is
easy to adjust height. data recovery
-
Pros:
Easy to use with my 17"" Dell Inspiron. cisco
-
Cons:
None keyboard
There are better options.
-
Pros:
Light, thin, and easy to pack (when LEGO-like
""lifters"" are removed). Swivels very
nicely. Rubber pieces help your laptop stay in place. monitor
-
Cons:
17"" laptops are not best suited for this
stand. If you carry a lot of stuff in your bag and you
carry this stand, expect to lose the plastic
""lifters"" that attach to the base. It
happened to me several times. desktop
-
Other Thoughts:
I am now looking for a solution that includes everything
in one single part. I will miss the swivel action of this
stand but I won't have to worry about losing the tiny
little black cones. infosys
