Laptop Battery ChevronTexaco said today that its second-quarter earnings fell
81 percent after energy prices slumped and it reduced the value of
its
investment in Dynegy by $531
million.

Thinkpad Net income declined to $407 million, or 39 cents a diluted
share, in contrast to estimated combined earnings of $2.11 billion,
or $1.99 a diluted share, for the period a year earlier. Revenue
fell 15 percent, to $25.3 billion, from $29.7 billion.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Microsoft ChevronTexaco, created from Chevron's purchase of Texaco last
year, lowered the value of its 27 percent stake in Dynegy after
shares of the company tumbled. ChevronTexaco, based in San
Francisco, also made less
money producing energy as
natural gas prices dropped 22
percent.

Laptop Computers ChevronTexaco valued its stake in Dynegy at $700 million, or
$7.20 a share, at the end of the quarter, John Watson,
ChevronTexaco's chief financial officer, said in a conference call.
It also holds convertible preferred shares, which it valued at $1.3
billion, he said. The company may take a further write-down this
quarter.

Laptop Computer "Dynegy continues to be a problem," said Tim Ghriskey, a fund
manager with Ghriskey Capital Partners, which owns ChevronTexaco
stock. "Trying to prop up Dynegy in this environment isn't the best
strategy."

write-down of its Dynegy stake and merger expenses. Without these,
profit would have been $1.23 billion, or $1.16 a diluted share, it
said. Analysts had expected the company to earn $1.37 a diluted
share.
Notebooks Dynegy said today that it had a second-quarter loss of $328
million, or 92 cents a diluted share, compared with earnings of
$146 million, or 43 cents a diluted share, for the quarter a year
earlier. Revenue fell 8.4 percent, to $9.9 billion from $10.8
billion.
Lenovo The company, which agreed on Monday to sell its Northern Natural
Gas pipeline to MidAmerican Energy Holdings for $928 million,
expects per-share profit for the year of about 41 cents, less than
an earlier forecast of $2 to $2.05 a share.
Hard Drive Shares of ChevronTexaco fell $1.38, to $73; Dynegy gained 54
cents, to $1.74.
