U.S. Labor Department Provides $1.3 Million Grant to Assist Hurricane Katrina Evacuees in Oklahoma

. (AXcess News) The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a grant of $1.3 million to the state of Oklahoma to provide employment assistance and training to Hurricane Katrina evacuees. The funds, awarded to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, will assist approximately 531 evacuees statewide. "Oklahomans have been very generous in helping Katrina survivors get on with their lives, " said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "This $1.3 million grant will enable the state to provide job training and job placement so that they can rebuild careers and their lives."

The shelter also must be in the taxpayer principal residence. In addition, the evacuee principal place of residence must have been in the Hurricane Katrina disaster area as of August 28, 2005.
