Rye Telephone Selects D-Tel and Lucent Technologies Accelerate
VoIP Solutions to Deliver Next-Generation Services

(D-Tel), a Lucent Business Partner, today announced that Rye
Telephone Company (RTC) of Colorado will deploy solutions from
Lucent's Accelerate(TM) Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
portfolio to deliver new services to its customers in Southeastern
Colorado.
Rye, an integrated communications services provider serving the
communities of Rye, Colorado City and Kim, will use Lucent's
Accelerate(TM) solution to offer enhanced calling services to
residential and business customers over their existing
wireline/wireless local loop network and a new IP network.
A hardware IP phone, also referred to as a 'hard phone', is a self contained IP telephone. It looks just like a conventional phone, but instead of a conventional phone jack, it has an Ethernet port through which it communicates directly with a VoIP server, VoIP gateway or another VoIP phone. Since a broadband hard phone communicates directly with a VoIP server, VoIP gateway or another VoIP phone it does not require any personal computer nor any software running on a personal computer to make or receive VoIP phone calls. It can be used independently, all that is required is an internet connection. While PC based software solutions are cheaper, a hard phone is the best solution for IP telephony.

a next-generation network. D-Tel is furnishing Rye Telephone with
the iGEN(TM) switch from Lucent's Accelerate (TM) portfolio and
also will provide a full set of turnkey professional services.
