"We believe it is likely that the next version of the Game Boy Advance SP will ship as early as this holiday, ahead of most expectations of calendar year 2006," wrote McNealy. Laptop Computer According to McNealy, sales numbers back Nintendo in releasing a new Game Boy over a year year after the release of the DS. Even with the DS launch in November, GBA software revenue and unit sales were up double-digits in December and January," wrote McNealy.

"Computer industry analysts estimate that some 60 percent of all corporate data exists only on desktop and laptop computers, " said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "Incorporating Acronis True Image with New Mexico Software backup server is the ideal solution to capture that corporate data and ensure that it is not lost. While traditional server backups are effective for protecting server data, every company should have a combination of server and workstation backup plans."

Desktop Computer A new hardware launch would keep Nintendo in the top of consumer's mind during the 2005 holiday season, according to McNealy, as without new hardware Sony's PSP and Microsofts possible release of the Xbox 2 could keep Nintendo overshadowed. Further, McNealy believes that the current generation of Game Boy has a major issue of piracy, epically in the Asia-Pacific region. By changing over to a new medium, such as flash memory cards, like those used for the Nintendo DS, piracy would no longer be as large an issue.

Notebooks McNealy also believes that publishers like Activision and THQ could benefit from a new Game Boy, writing, "We believe that a new GBA SP could mean between $10 million to $20 million of additional revenue for both Activision and THQ in FY06, and an additional $0.02 to $0.04 in earnings."

Lenovo Nintendo has not yet commented on McNealy's analysis. According to CNN Money, official confirmation of a new Game Boy could come as early as March 10th at the GDC when Satoru Iwata gives his keynote speech titled The Heart of a Gamer. The Advanced Media Network will be in San Francisco attending the Game Developers Conference, so if any new hardware is announced we will bring that information to you.

Travelstar Since yesterday's report about P.J. McNealy's analysis regarding a possible new Game Boy by the end of the year, numerous rumors have begun to spread around the internet. One such rumor was that the next Game Boy will be shown at E3 2005. Another rumor was that the next Game Boy will simply be a redesign of the Game Boy Advance. It was even rumored that Nintendo may be working on a handheld similar to Sony's PSP, or a PDA-based device that plays games.

Gateway Nintendo of America has not confirmed nor denied any of the aforementioned rumors. When contacted by IGN Nintendo of America's Senior Director of Public Relations, Beth Llewelyn, stated, "Game Boy continues to be a shining star in the video game industry with more than 176 million units sold worldwide. In 2004 alone we sold 10 million Game Boy Advance SPs in North America and sales were up 9% in January. Our newest hand-held game system, the Nintendo DS, has done extremely well and is on target to ship 6 million worldwide by March 31. There is always speculation on what the next Game Boy will be, however, at this time there are no announcements about a new Game Boy SP product."
