Laptop Computer "At this point, the building is really held up by termites holding hands in the basement," Diane Nickerson, the center's director, said with a laugh. "It's not really efficient. (The new building) is going to make it so we don't bump into each other."

Desktop Computer Nickerson plans to meet with the Mercer County Park Commission on Jan. 8 to decide details for construction. The plan calls for a building with 4,500 to 5,000 square feet of space providing additional office space and labs.
Notebooks Nickerson said about 30 to 40 rescued animals are brought to the center every day in the summer months. That number dwindles to about two a day during the winter.
Lenovo The goal of the center is to return the animals to the wild. The new building will house a better hospital facility that will allow for minor surgery.
Hard Drive Right now, Nickerson spends a lot of her time going to local schools and scout troops to make wildlife presentations because the current center is not suitable for visitors.
Travelstar The new facility is slated to have a small classroom with an area outside for cages that can be viewed by the public. Those cages will hold about 20 animals that can not be returned to the wild.
Gateway State law dictates animals on their way back to the wild can not be exposed to visitors.
Laptop Parts "It's not in their best interest," Nickerson said. "They're supposed to be afraid of people."
Software Frank Ragazzo, park commission executive director, said the new facility will likely cost about $500,000 to build.
Hard Drives The county freeholders already approved $100,000 in capital funds for the project and the center's nonprofit group has raised $150,000. The county still needs to work out how the rest of the project will be funded.
Electronics Ragazzo said the new site, which is still part of the county's correction center property, needs to be reviewed to make sure it's suitable for the new building.
Canon "It's definite, contingent upon site work that has to be done," Ragazzo said. "We feel pretty confident it's a buildable site."
Desktop Pc The county considered several possible locations for the new center, including Baldpate and Belle mountains.
Desktop Computers The new site will allow the center to keep the current outdoor cages where they are because the five acres of cages stretch all the way down to the new site.

Repair Right now, the center is operated by Nickerson, three part-time staff members, 75 volunteers and one inmate from the Mercer County Correction Center.
Data Recovery The center started in the jail and has always been staffed by some inmates, but the inmates will no longer be able to work at the center when it moves down the road because it is too far from the jail.
Cisco Nickerson said the loss of the inmate could increase volunteerism especially because high school students are not allowed to work with inmates.
Keyboard "We lose about 20 percent of the people who come out every year because they don't want to work with an inmate," Nickerson said.
Monitor There is no schedule for completing the project, although Nickerson hopes it will be finished this year - the 20th anniversary of the center.
