E3: Revolution Chaos?
Laptop Battery IGN has a few interesting Revolution tidbits that were posted just recently. The first concerns a rumor that Nintendo literaly scrambled at the last minute to even get a prototype put together to display at E3. However, Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo's vice president of corporate affairs, denies the rumors, saying she saw the final design "eons ago."
However, Kaplan conceded that the prototype may have received some polishing up prior to E3.
"Mr. Iwata wanted to make sure that the final coating on the prototypical examples looked good," Kaplan told IGN.
Kaplan also discussed the Metroid Prime 3 video that Nintendo played during their press conference and why more of it wasn't shown. First and most importantly, the video was indeed in-game footage from an early version of the title and was actual Revolution footage. Why did Nintendo show so little of it?
"Several of us felt pretty strongly that we didn't want people to misperceive that Metroid Prime 3 was our big [Revolution] launch title because that's not what it was intended to mean," Kaplan told the IGN. "And we really want to feel like we want to make sure we have a compilation with a lot of stuff that we're really happy with before we show it. It's like showing one finger of a hand doesn't make sense."
On the subject of the forthcoming console's name, Ms. Kaplan noted that "Revolution" is only a codename. However, the same thing was said about DS last year and the moniker stuck, so we'll see what happens.
