Desktop Computer The incident, in which the bears had scaled a fence while
seeking garbage, was the second close encounter between humans and
bears in a Highlands community this week - and the most serious of
hundreds of incidents reported during the past three years. On
Tuesday, a bear seeking garbage invaded a porch in Sparta and
nudged a toddler. Police shot and killed the animal.
Notebooks Last August in New York State, a bear killed 5-month-old Esther
Schwimmer, after snatching her from her carriage at a resort in the
Catskills. Authorities suspected that the animal detected the odor
of food in the baby's diaper.
Lenovo Bradley M. Campbell, the state's
environmental commissioner, said
Friday afternoon's incident serves as a tragic reminder that even
small bears can easily overpower humans and that residents must
take better care of their garbage in to keep the animals away.
Hard Drive "It is ill-advised to ever try and stop a bear," Campbell said.
"The damage the bear caused might have been limited to the dog but
for the efforts of the homeowner to intervene."
Travelstar Campbell said it is believed that a family of four bears lives
in the marsh. The hunt for the mother continued until dusk Friday
and was to resume today. The hunters were instructed to leave the
yearling alone.
Gateway Campbell said there have been more than 300 incidents in the
past year in which
people and bears have
encountered each other. But Friday's incident marked the first
time that anyone was injured.
Laptop Parts In Tuesday's incident, the bear had inquisitively pawed at the
toddler and then run away when shooed by the boy's mother. The boy
was not hurt.
Software Skrypek was not so lucky. Around 2 p.m., police say, the female
and her yearling scaled a 4-foot cyclone fence in search of garbage
that authorities said Skrypek had been keeping on his porch.
Hard Drives A child playing in the yard, and Skrypek's dog started barking.
The mother bear then attacked the dog, prompting Skrypek to rush
out of the house and grapple with the animal - for which he was no
match.
Electronics West Milford Police Chief James Dykstra tried to assuage fears
that the bear had been preying on people.
Canon "It's important to understand that this was not an unprovoked
attack by a bear going after a human being," Dykstra said. "It's
quite the opposite."
Desktop Pc Dykstra said that fighting with a bear, even to save a pet, is a
bad idea.
Desktop Computers "[Skrypek] chose to do what he had to do, and I'm not making any
judgment calls," Dykstra said.
Think Pad The incident came at a time when public debate rages over New
Jersey's proposal to hold its first bear hunt since 1971 to cut
into a black bear population now estimated at up to 3,200. On
Thursday night, the state Fish and Game Council held a public
hearing in Trenton on a December hunt, drawing a raucous crowd of
nearly 300 people.
Repair Campbell, head of the state Department of
Environmental Protection, backs the
hunt. He called for tougher enforcement of state law that requires
residents to maintain their garbage so that bears can't get into it
- or face a $1,000 fine
Data Recovery IF YOU CROSS PATHS WITH A BEAR
Cisco # Yell, scream, and make lots of noise. Bears have a keen sense
of hearing and often are frightened by loud noises.
Keyboard # Wave your arms back and forth over your head. Bears have poor
eyesight and often will perceive persons waving their arms to be
larger than they actually are.
Monitor # Call police. Many departments have officers trained in
advanced aversive conditioning techniques who will respond to a
bear complaint with flares and guns that fire rubber pellets.
Desktop # Do not climb a tree. Bears are excellent climbers. Likewise,
do not jump into a lake. Bears are excellent swimmers.
Infosys # Do not run away. Instead, walk backward slowly, keeping your
eyes on the bear at all times.
