Installing Memory
Learn how to install you RAM in your computer - and the
precautions you should take... RAM - (Random Access Memory)
Short-term memory for your computer. Memory, or RAM, is the oil
that makes your computer run smoothly. It is used in every
operation your computer performs, from simply pressing the
mouse button to running complex game graphics. It is also one
of the most cost-effective and affordable investments
in upgrading to your computer, producing both subtle
and profound improvements on hundreds of daily processes,
applications and tasks. If you work with digital media of any
kind such as image manipulation, video and audio recording and
production, and CAD (computer aided design) then having ample
memory is essential to enable your computer to work at its
best. It's not just these processes that rely on your
computer's memory - desktop publishing, databases and all
other manner of programs use their quota of memory to run. thinkpad
Gamers also know the importance of running as much memory as
possible - as games develop as an astounding rate in terms of
polygons, framerate, textures, physics engines and general
on-screen action, gamers skill and responsiveness is limited by
how fast their computer is able to process the data. Most
graphics cards such as nVidia and ATI offer dedicated graphics
memory and although this takes some of the strain off the RAM,
most serious gamers still invest in the best memory their
computer can take. Check out our memory upgrade
guide - full of hints and tips about buying and
installing more RAM. microsoft
Why upgrade your memory
It happens to the best of us. After staring at the box
longingly in your car you've finally got home and pulled
the shrinkwrap from your new game or program. You toss the
novice manual to the floor and with a great amount of reverence
place the disc in your computer. So far so good - the
auto-install box pops up and you click the sequence of
Next buttons impatiently, slightly embaressed at being
forced to retrieve the manual to find the installation serial
key. The progress bar progresses jerkily and waits a
disproportionately long time on the final bit. You keep your
cool in the knowledge it will be worth it. There... you're
done! laptop computers
But something isn't working the way it should... You
read the back of the box - you don't have enough memory to
meet the minimum requirements. If your computer has been
dragging its heels a bit lately, it could be time to
upgrade your memory. Memory is one of those
things that you really become aware of when you don't have
enough. Here are some of the telltale signs that you need to
upgrade your RAM: laptop computer
Programs and games crash desktop computer
Games are jerky, sluggish and unresponsive notebooks
Your computer slows down when you run many programs at
the same time lenovo
Any number of error messaging pertaining to memory and

Finding compatible memory
Computer memory (otherwise known as RAM) comes in many
different speeds and sizes so always check your computer's
exisiting memory first before buying any new modules or your
computer might not even boot up properly! There are four major
things to be aware of when buying new memory to upgrade our
RAM. Here's the low-down on the techie jargon... desktop pc
Memory Type - The type of memory technology your computer
uses, therefore defining compatibility. Before anything else
you need to determine the type of memory currently in your
computer. It comes in many flavours, DDR, DDR II, DD III etc.
Unless you're into your tech specs it's not necessary
to know the difference, only that your computer will support a
specific type and that's one type you need. Laptop memory
is also different from standard PC RAM. desktop computers
Memory Size - The capacity of your computer's short-term
memory The most common metric of memory is size in GigaBytes
GB, or less impressively MegaBytes MB, and it's a definate
case of bigger is better. The more RAM your computer has, the
less it needs to read and write to the main hard drive during
games and applications. Memory generally comes in 256 MB, 512
MB and 1 GB (which is 1024MB) and with most computer
motherboards having 3 or 4 memory slots, it's possible to
have up to 4GB firing your system. A word of warning however,
if you're running a 32bit Windows operating system then you
can only actually use a maximum of 3GB. think pad
Memory Clock Speed - The speed with which memory can
communicate with your computer Quite simply this is how fast a
module of memory can communicate with your computer. Sometimes
called Bus Clock Rate, it's measured in MegaHertz and the
most common clock speeds are 667 MHz, 533 MHz, 400 MHz, and 333
MHz. A general rule of thumb is the bigger the number, the
faster and better your memory but if you're just adding
more memory then it's a safe bet to buy exactly the same
clock speed of your current memory. Dedicated memory for gamers
can be be ridiculously fast in order to fuel their appetite for
intense frag action and explosive physics. You are limited in
speed by your motherboard so investing in super fast memory
will be of no use if your motherboard is a standard office
model. Another word of warning - fast clock speeds incur more
latency (see below) much to the frustration of high-spec
gamers; there are hundreds of website you can visit to get more
information on this, and a good article here
which is still relevant despite being published in 2005. repair
Memory Latency - How long the computer and memory waits for
each another to catch up You could think about memory latency
as people working at a drive-thru restaurant; you place your
order then wait for the food to be ready. The lower the timings
are, the faster the computer (and quicker your order comes) is
able to get data from the memory, and the faster the rest of
the PC will ultimately be. Unless you are investing in
specialised, dedicated memory for serious game enthusiasts then
don't worry too much about latency. data recovery
Checking your computer's exisiting memory
So much for a memory upgrade guide... you
thought there was just once kind of memory and now you're
even more confused! But wait and we'll show you how to
identify the memory you need. There are a few things you'll
need to do... cisco

>p>This is a no hassle projector. Clear and bright it

4:3 and 15:9 screen formats. Well done Acer>/p> desktop
Jargon BusterANSI lumens
ANSI lumens is a measurement of the overall brightness of a
projector. Because the centre of a projected image is brighter
than the corners, ANSI lumens is the most accurate
representation of the image brightness. ANSI lumens are
calculated by dividing a square meter image into 9 equal
rectangles, measuring the lux (or brightness) reading at the
centre of each rectangle, and averaging these nine points. infosys
Contrast Ratio
If you're concerned about picture quality, don't
just look at brightness. Contrast is just as important. In
short, it's a measure of how well the projector can block
out light from the lamp, ie. how black is the black This is
especially important for home cinema applications. refurbished laptops
An average contrast ratio is about 400:1 for LCD projectors,
whilst some DLP projectors have contrast ratio of 4000:1. wipro
Keystone Correction
'Keystoning' is the name given to the effect on the
projected image when the projector sits below or above the
centre of the screen. Keystone correction counteracts this
effect by digitally compressing the image at the bottom or top,
resulting in a squarer, more professional image. lap top
Lamp Hours
A standard lamp lasts for about 2000 hours of projecting.
That's a lot of presentations, and with lamps sold at
ý150 and ý:500, it works out at between 8p and
25p per hour of use. Projectors with higher lamp half lives are
less likely to cause you a problem in the middle of a
presentation when the projector gets older and used more, and
generally represent better value per hour of use. However, with
all projectors a sharp knock can put the lamp out of action no
matter how old it is. Environmental factors can also effect
lamp life so it's prudent to have a spare on hand. refurbished
Technology: LCD/DLP
DLP technology is a revolutionary display solution that uses
an optical semiconductor to manipulate light digitally. It is a
highly reliable, all-digital display chip that delivers the
best picture across a broad range of products, including large
screen digital TVs, and projectors for business, home,
professional venue and digital cinema. memory
3LCD
3LCD is the most widely used projection technology system in
the world. This is how 3LCD technology works: white light is
split into red, green, and blue using two mirrors that transmit
light with a certain wavelength. Each colour is then passed
through a dedicated LCD, before being combined with the other
colors in a prism. The image is then ready to be projected onto
the screen. intel
Lens Shift
Lens shift is generally a feature of high-end projectors or
specialist home cinema models. Lens shift has a similar effect
to 'Keystone correction' except that the effect is
achieved by physically adjusting the angle of the projectors
lens to square up the image. This is a better method of
producing a square image, rather than using keystone correction
as the correction with lens shift is achieved optically (rather
than digitally) resulting in no loss of quality as400
Lens shift can also be useful for fine-tuning the position
of the projected image on your screen averatec
Ratio
In general, a ratio is a way of concisely showing the
relationship between two quantities of something. The most
formal way of stating a ratio is by separating the two
quantities with a colon (:). A ratio is a comparison of two
numbers. We generally separate the two numbers in the ratio
with a colon (:). Suppose we want to write the ratio of 4 and
3. We can write this as 4:3 (common ratio for data) or 16:9
(common ratio for video material) hardware
Resolution
The resolution is the accuracy of the image that the
projector casts. Most projectors fall into two categories -
SVGA (800 x 600 pixels) or XGA (1024 x 768 pixels). Similarly,
most computers output a signal which is either SVGA or XGA. dual xeon
(Home cinema users - please note the majority of dedicated
home cinema projectors project a native 16:9 (widescreen) image
and fall into one of three resolution categories - WVGA (854 x
480 pixels), WSVGA (1024 x 576 pixels) or WXGA (1280 x 720
pixels). The 'W' stands for 'Wide'. storage
If you use a PC, you can check which signal you're
using. Go to Control Panel and select 'Display', then
click the Settings tab. Next to 'Screen Area'
you'll see a slider which shows what resolution you're
using. If it's 800x600, you use SVGA. If it's 1024x768,
you use XGA. You can move this slider and press 'OK' to
see the difference between the resolutions. seagate
If you use a Mac, you can check which signal you are using
by going to the 'Monitors' or 'Monitors and
Sound' control pannel (depending on which Mac OS version
you are using). Most projectors sold today are XGA. This is
because most computers sold today are moving to XGA resolution
as standard. You can project an SVGA output signal with an XGA
projector without significant loss of quality. However,
projecting an XGA signal with an SVGA projector can make your
presentation look unsightly. computer sales
Response Time
The time it takes for a pixel to turn on and off. Response
time is a good indication of how fast motion such as video or
computer animation will appear on the projected image. computer hardware
Weight
Are you taking your projector on the road or leaving it in
the board room If you are on the move, you'll appreciate
having a projector that's as portable as you can afford.
Thankfully, today's projectors are smaller than ever, with
the lightest at around 0.9kgs and easy to carry over the
shoulder. However, the desktop models still have more features
and represent better value if the projector is going to stay in
one place. printers
