State Eases Its Restrictions On Water Use

Laptop Battery This fall's storms have brought enough rain to ease drought restrictions that have been in place since August. Bradley Campbell, state Department of Environmental Protection commissioner, announced during a drought conference at the EcoComplex yesterday that the restrictions have been relaxed.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Those lazy, hazy days of summer are making state Department of Environmental Protection officials nervous. A dry July is making reservoir levels drop again. By winter's end, our water supplies were below 40 percent capacity, and the state imposed drought restrictions. A nice wet spring brought four months of normal rainfall, and water levels returned to near normal, allowing an easing of restrictions on June 20.

Laptop Computers The recent rain has helped replenish water sources, but New Jersey residents must continue to focus on conserving water, Campbell told an audience of about 50 water-conservation professionals, government officials and business representatives attending the daylong conference.

She said the DEP plans to review water restrictions later this month. Under current restrictions, lawns can be watered twice a week in the southern coastal, northwest and southwest regions. - - in the central and northern coastal regions, while watering in the northeast region is banned at all times. The drought restrictions imposed by the state in early March also prohibited nonessential outdoor water use, such as washing cars, and serving water in restaurants unless it was requested.

Hard Drive The master plan was last updated in 1996 using data compiled in 1992, Campbell said. Most of the 1996 plan's guidelines were not implemented, he said.

Travelstar The combination of climate change and heavy development has stressed the state's water supply. Confusing environmental regulations and a lack of incentives for utilities to reuse wastewater have also contributed to the current drought, the state's second in the past three years, Campbell said.
